The indifference of good men.
Why blog? Well, I can explain it in a simple way. Have you ever seen the movie “Boondock Saints”? There is an opening scene where the minister says “We all must fear evil, but the evil we must fear the most is the indifference of good men.” I believe that being indifferent about technology today can have negative effects on our future.
Technology is obviously a major part of society. I choose to not be indifferent about technology. The constant changes and evolution of technology are becoming more integrated within our daily lives. I like to be informed about current news. I like to know that if I need find information about anything, I have the tools and resources to do so. I am excited about where technology will take us in the next few years, but at the same time I am weary and cautious (I will explain further in a later blog).
I am certain you have heard of the term ‘blog’. This online buzzword has become a way of life and a relevant source of information throughout the world wide web. While some people check their newspaper every morning over a cup of coffee, others are checking their latest blog roll while updating their iPod.
Wikipedia defines a blog as: “A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.”
Blogging is a relevant source of information, news, and content. Why should I pay 35 cents per day for printed information that is a generic daily source of news? I can have my RSS Feeds tailored to my interests. I can read the most up-to-date news online for free and then I can blog about the information that is relevant to me.
Blogs evolved from early internet forums circa 1994. The idea of an online diary evolved into a way for people to disseminate and gather relevant information. I believe that social networks will have to compete with blogging software. I see blogs in the future as serving as our ‘online home’ for all our news, friends, comments, connections, lifestyles, and information. While most blogs are created in text format, many people today are adding content to their sites with audio and video formats. The ease of creating audio and video content has become almost as efficient as text formatted blogs.
This blog will serve as a way for me to post about my interests in technology. I will discuss applications I use, review programs, and give insight about how society will be within the next few years. I am not indifferent about technology and how it effects our lives. I hope this blog will serve to inspire others to seek out truth and information.
